Architect of Order

Systems of Knowledge Organization

The 5 Pillars (L.A.T.C.H.)

According to information theorist Richard Saul Wurman, everything in the world can only be organized in these five ways. This is the ultimate "Meta-System".

L

Location

Organizing by geography or spatial relation.

Maps, Body Anatomy, Solar System
A

Alphabet

Organizing by arbitrary symbol sequence.

Dictionaries, Contact Lists, Indices
T

Time

Organizing by chronology or sequence.

History Timelines, Schedules, Instructions
C

Category

Organizing by similarity or type.

Department Stores, Animal Species, Genres
H

Hierarchy

Organizing by magnitude or value (Big to Small).

Military Ranks, File Sizes, Best-Seller Lists

The Wisdom Pyramid (DIKW)

This model describes how raw signals are transformed into actionable understanding. It is a hierarchy of value.

WISDOM Applied insight. "Why?"
KNOWLEDGE Structured info. "How?"
INFORMATION Contextualized data. "What?"
DATA Raw symbols/Facts.

Example: Data is 38°C. Information is knowing that is a high fever. Knowledge is taking medicine to lower it. Wisdom is resting to prevent it from happening again.

Linnaean Taxonomy

A Nested Hierarchy used in biology. Each level acts as a container for the levels below it.

Domain: Eukarya
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Mammalia
Order: Primates
Family: Hominidae
Genus: Homo
Species: Sapiens

Bloom's Taxonomy

A Sequential Hierarchy of cognitive skills. You cannot effectively "Create" until you "Remember".

6. CREATE
5. EVALUATE
4. ANALYZE
3. APPLY
2. UNDERSTAND
1. REMEMBER
